Owner, Matt Bales is a man you can trust with your pipe & steel needs. He’s a cattleman at heart and brings a unique set of skills and background to the cattle industry. With over twenty years experience in cattle related businesses in Southwest Missouri, he knows how to help customers with cattle equipment and fencing supplies that folks in the Four States have come to expect.
Since 2009, he has put together a very competent team with a broad knowledge base and a variety of talents. From pipe and wire fence building to working cattle to welding and fabrication, our guys have the skills and commitment to serve our customers well!
In 2001, Matt started his first company, Bales Welding, as a second generation welder. Over the next 8 years he became a reputable pipe fence and corral builder in the four states area.
In 2009, Matt & his wife Andrea purchased Superior Steel Sales, located in rural Sarcoxie, MO. He began manufacturing crowding tubs, alleyways, feed bunks, and heavy duty gates.
In 2011, Superior Steel relocated with the original crew to a location next door to the Joplin Regional Stockyards on I-44 and started construction.
In 2012, the new location saw a number of changes. Not only in buildings, but in employees. By the year’s end the employee roster had doubled, a saw shop had been added, and a warehouse was built.
Over the next five years Superior’s manufactured product line increased and trucks stayed busy delivering loads to dealers and customers. The need for space to expand became the next challenge to overcome.
In early 2019 construction began across the highway, south of I-44, for our new sales facility which opened in April 2019. The move allowed for inventory expansion and additional space at the manufacturing facility. Manufacturing remains on the North side of I-44.
